Cormac Ó Cuilleanáin will give a talk on Things Fall Apart: A Crime Writer Looks at the State of Ireland

Prof. Ó Cuilleanáin is Professor of Italian at Trinity College Dublin.

He has published on Boccaccio, on Dante and on translation. In recent years he has taken to crime fiction, under the pseudonym Cormac Millar; his second crime novel, The Grounds, set in a fictional Dublin university, was published in 2006.

Rosemary Sullivan writes poetry, short stories, biographies and literary criticism. She teaches English Literature at the Toronto University.

The talk was followed by a screening of the short The Road Out directed by Juan Opitz and produced and narrated by Rosemary Sullivan.

Kier Elam will give a lecture entitled "Shakespeare's pictures"

Keir Elam is Professor of English Literature and Director of the Department of Language and Modern Foreign Literatures at Bologna University. He is the author of The semiotics of theatre and drama (1980) and Shakespeare's universe of discourse: Language-games in the comedies (1984).

Prof. Elam has very kindly offered to substitute Prof. Gordon McMullan who cannot be with us because of the disruption caused to air traffic by the volcanic ash cloud.
